IRONMAN Decision 2014 + Giveaway Winner

11 Sep

Well it happened again! I signed up for my 4th Ironman triathlon. You ask why? I am obviously coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs!

Who does not want to finish an Ironman with this in the background??

Here is the back story. I have always done what Ironman my friends were doing/wanted to do. I have always (for whatever reason) wanted to do Lake Placid. It is a hard, hilly course on he other side of the country. No wonder my friends did not want to do it!

Last year at this time I finally talked some of my hard-core girlfriends into doing a “girls” trip Ironman destination: Lake Placid(LP). YES! I was so excited. FINALLY suckered talked them into it.

UNTIL….

A couple of months ago we found out Tri-Bike Transport did not service Portland to LP. This was a very sad day. We did a lot of pros/cons on different races M-dot(Whistler, CDA, AZ) vs non M-dot (Vineman) vs something international (Europe/New Zealand) vs. Lake Placid. After hashing it out for a while logistics won out and Whistler was where the decision fell.

I was obviously sad. I really wanted to do LP. I really wanted this to be my retirement Ironman. I thought about going away from the group and doing LP or repeating CDA but in the end I signed up for Whistler.

I have heard nothing but good things about the course. So here is to the next 319 days of hard work and training to see if I can come anywhere near my IMAZ PR! 🙂

Awesome! So glad you liked it and hope your 20 went well. I did the LB 1/2 last year! Are you doing the surf city, OC, LB series? No I’m not on Instagram yet. No day! 🙂

I’ve read some blogs of people who have done Whistler and it sounds amazing. But one of my close friends and her father have done LP for years and love it. Either way, I don’t think you can go wrong! Congrats! I am pondering a half IM for 2014 but the date of Muncie which some friends are doing looks to be my bro’s wedding date. Any advice on other races?!

    • Leslie @ TriathleteTreats September 14, 2013 at 3:51 PM #

Yes!! Definitely do a half IM next year! OH man that is too bad that the date is not good for Munice!! I don’t know any good races in the Midwest. I would love to do Timberman 70.3 or Rev3 Quassy. If you want to do one on the west coast I can give you some good ideas!!

Thanks Leslie! I am trying to coordinate it with the BOY’s bar exam, so I will look into a few and hopefully find one!

    • Leslie @ TriathleteTreats September 14, 2013 at 3:34 PM #

Yeahyaaa!! You should totally come up to Whistler next year!! You are so close!!!! That would be Awesome!

  9. falcor007 September 13, 2013 at 1:17 PM #

You will be SO HAPPY with Whistler. It was the MOST beautiful place for a long workout (wink wink). I would do it again but want to spread my Ironman wings to other venues. I’d be happy to have a beer/coffee over the course to give you some insight. It was a beast of a bike ride, but nothing the NW can’t prep you for.

    • Leslie @ TriathleteTreats September 14, 2013 at 3:34 PM #

Yes! Awesome to hear from someone who experienced it!! I will totally take you up on having a chat about it! Sooner than later before you “forget” about it!! 🙂
