Portland Marathon Madness!

6 Oct

I have had a busy weekend. Portland Marathon happened this weekend! Today!!

Lets start with Friday!

I like to volunteer at registration. There is about 8 of us who take the same shift every year. One of the ladies brings chocolate chip cookies. The rest of us joke that we only come because of the cookies! 🙂

I always end up with the 3000 bib numbers. Let me tell you why it is annoying. The half marathon bibs are in the 30,000s and they always come to my line. I finally got the 2000 numbers this year but the guy who got the 3’s was sad (cause he knows it is a pain). I was nice and traded!

Here is to the 3000s—-> Maybe next year I will get a different line!

Saturday:
Awake very early for my LAST BIG run before Chicago. We were more prepared this time for the early dark morning!!

I was hired to work at the Picky Bar booth. It was so great to meet some of the Picky Bar crew…Jocelyn who is the new marketing manager and Laurel who manages the Picky Club. I also worked with Becky and Aaron. Becky is running Chicago next weekend too so we had a lot to talk about. Aaron was pacing the first half of the 3:00 hour pace group. Yeah he is fast!! Then last years winner (the overall winner) Jamison came to the booth to say hi to Laurel. We asked what his goal was? He said to win! Ha! Becky and I looked at Aaron and said oh yeah we thought you were fast!! 🙂 (Jamison did WIN AGAIN!!)

We talked up Picky Bars and gave out lots of samples. It was a lot of fun!

After my shift I met up with Erica and Laura to give good luck hugs!! They were getting excited!

Today was the BIG DAY! Dan and I made our way to mile 6ish. We had our cowbells and duck lips out. It is a big section of cheering. We saw the marathon and half marathoners. Everyone looked great. The weather was PERFECT!

We made our way back to the eastside for a quick breakfast and to set up shop at mile 23. Everyone was more spread out and it was easier to see our friends —> Amy, Scott, Erica, Laura, Shawn, Kat! Lots of smiles. It was so fun to be out there cheering and spectating. It got me super motivated and excited for next weekend! Congrats to super strong races by everyone!!

What is your favorite part of spectating?
